Crimes of the Heart
September 19-22, 2007 at 8:00 p.m., September 23, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Crimes of the Heart, we all have crimes of the heart..... sad, true, and blissful....at times...this play covers all the territory. Taking place in the South, we follow the story of a family's relationship and how they are dealing with their sister shooting her husband. With the strong female cast we can't help but to feel their pain through their emotions, relationship with each other, and how they deal with life. By the time the play transferred to Broadway in November 1981, Crimes of the Heart had received the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. Beth Henley was the first woman to win the Pulitzer for Drama in twenty-three years, and her play was the first ever to win before opening on Broadway. Tickets: $16 Adults, $14 Seniors, $8 Students.
Quilters
November 14-17, 2007 at 8:00 p.m., November 18, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Quilters tells the story of a pioneer woman, Sarah McKendree Bonham, and her six daughters, through a series of interrelated scenes, that evoke the challenges and rewards of frontier life, like the colorful patches on a quilt. Girlhood, marriage, childbirth, fire, illness and death are illuminated through drama, music and dance. (One of the authors is Molly Newman who is a television writer and producer most known for work on shows such as The Larry Sanders Show, Northern Exposure and Brothers & Sisters. She was nominated for Broadway's 1985 Tony Award as Best Book (Musical) with collaborator Barbara Damashek for "Quilters.") Tickets: $16 Adults, $14 Seniors, $8 Students.
Hay Fever
February 20-23, 2008 at 8:00 p.m., February 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Hay Fever is set in the hall of the Bliss family home. The eccentric Blisses—Judith, a recently retired stage actress, David, a self-absorbed novelist, and their two equally unconventional children. All four members of the Bliss family have independently invited a guest for the weekend at their house near Maidenhead. The guests arrive only to find themselves alternately humiliated and embarrassed by their self-obsessed and self-dramatizing hosts. This comical masterpiece is filled with wit! Grapes of Wrath
April 16-19 at 8:00 p.m. and April 20 at 2:00 p.m. The Wichita Center for the Arts presents John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. Holding fast to the simplicity of the original novel this deeply affecting stage adaptation relates the inspiring story of one of the greatest masterpieces of American literature. Winner of the 1990 Tony Award and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Play, playwright Frank Galati uses four bluegrass musicians and a cast of forty actors to convey Steinbeck’s timeless message. Despite anguish and suffering, the essential goodness and strength which resides in the hearts of the common man continues today as it did then. Featuring Nathan Houseman, JR Hurst, Mary Lou Phipps-Winfrey, Joyce Cavarozzi and Dick Welsbacher. Directed by Shaun-Michael Morse. This play contains brief nudity, adult language and depictions of violence that may not be suitable for children under 13. Tickets: $16 Adults, $14 Seniors, $8 Students.
