The Wichita Center for the Arts along with Elizabeth B. Koch, and The K.T. Wiedemann Foundation, Inc., will again host The Scholastic Art Awards. The Scholastic Art Awards Exhibition showcase artwork from students in High School and Middle School in Wichita, KS and the surrounding areas.

Teachers in our 70
county region will receive packets from the national office.
This packet gives you the national website address for registration. If you are a teacher and do not received a packet, please follow these 6 steps.
Step1. Click here
to read the Submission Guidelines 2009. All Instructions,
Fees, Quotas, Pick Up and Drop Off Dates for our Region.
Size Limitations: 2-D artwork
should not exceed 48" in any direction and, in general, the
largest 2-D work that is eligible is 36" x 48." 3-D
artwork should not exceed 18" x 18" x 36" in dimensions
and not exceed 30 pounds in weight.
Step 2. Register
at www.artandwriting.org
Click on "How to Submit Your Work." Then click the appropriate
link for teachers or students and it will walk you through the
rest of the process. Please Note: Teachers will receive an email shortly after registering
issuing you a password. You can then log onto the national site
at any time and check the status of student registration. When students register, they will create a profile, and then
can register each individual piece of work they're entering into
the competition.
Step 3. Print.
Print
2 copies of the completed submission form to
attach to each work with artist tape, clear packing tape or masking
tape.
Please Do Not Use Duct Tape.
Step
4. Signatures.
Obtain parent, teacher and student signatures for each form. All
signatures MUST be original.
Step 5. Click here
to print the Inventory Sheet for your shipment.
Note: We are generating the
wall labels for the exhibition this year, so you won't need to
worry about those. Also, please make all checks payable to WCA
or Wichita Center for the Arts.

Art and Photography Portfolios
Entries
The following is a list of the additional materials to include
with all portfolio entries.
1. Artist's Statement: No
less than 300 and no more than 750 words. The statement should
be typed on a separate sheet of paper and should address the following
questions:
A. Why did select the work you
submitted for your Art/Photography Portfolio?
B. How do you hope people will react
when they look at your work?
C. What role does art play in your
life?
2. Letter of Recommendation: A sealed letter of recommendation is required from an instructor,
guidance counselor or principal familiar with the student's work.
3. Eight Works of Art or Photography: This year, Art Portfolios are accepted as digital JPG files
on CD-ROM and NOT slides. Photography Portfolios must have
mounted prints AND a CD-ROM of photography.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards offer
