Demonstrations will be given, along with individual instruction and group critiques. Students should bring at least 5 good quality photographs of landscapes. We will focus on developing a composition for your photographs without losing the emotion and color of the real life image. The student will learn how to make a strong composition from photographs and create mood which may be lacking in using one photograph as a reference. This workshop will take place in the Gallery.

The second day demonstrations will be given on how to use color thumbnail sketches to solve problems of composition and color and different ways to begin a painting. The remainder of the morning students will work on color thumbnail sketches. In the afternoon, students take their best color thumbnail and us it as a starting point to do a larger painting. The day will end with a critique.
The third day Doug will demonstrate the use of under painting to control the greens in a landscape. He will talk about two different lighting conditions in landscapes, sunny and overcast. While demonstrating, he will talk about the general principles used to find color solutions. Students will spend the rest of the morning and afternoon working on their own paintings. The day ends with a critique of the work and a summary of the various principles illustrated in the workshop. This workshop will take place in the Gallery.
