The principles taught in this class are basic to all mediums.  Color and light will be the focus of the week, along with essential elements of strong composition.  Students will explore color by working from costumed models and still life.  Optical mixing of layered color, as well as the analysis of the effect of light and substructure of values and temperature will be stressed.  Each student will receive individual attention and critiques.  Demonstrations, lectures and a slide show are designed to give students tools to achieve intensely beautiful color.

3 Day Pet Portrait Workshop

This workshop you are open to use acrylic, pastel, charcoal, colored pencil or more to make a portrait of your pet. The instructor will demonstrate techniques, perspective, fur, texture, and more to recreate your loved animal onto a canvas. Plein-Air Painting Workshop

This class will concentrate on developing on-location oil painting skills. David will demonstrate plein-air painting and will give individual instruction and group critiques. Multi Media Collage and Assemblage – 16 weeks

This class will use a variety of mediums and techniques, from photo transferring, deconstructing text and image, found objects, surface design, plastic fusion, recycled materials, fabric, sewing, paper, beads, adhesives and wax resist. We will be working on altered Books to Sacred Shrines, Found Object Assemblage to Mixed Media Collage. This is the place to experiment with new mediums!  Each day includes project demonstrations and discussions, sketch reviews and large blocks of creative time for individual work. Essentials of Oil Painting – 12 weeks

This class is designed for the student who would like to form a firm foundation in oil painting. Each week the students will become familiar with the essentials of effective painting to include color, value, composition, edges, texture and more! Romantic Figure and Life Drawing – 16 weeks

The class will have a romantic approach to figure and portrait painting/drawing. The figure will be partially clothed in sheer or “romantic” fabrics and dresses. The importance of lighting will be taught along with demonstrations. Caricature for Adults (6 weeks) (Ages16 – Adults)

Those who already have a grounding in basic cartooning are shown how caricatures are produced. Through exploration of some of the caricatures of famous cartoonist, students learn what to look for in a face and how to exaggerate while retaining their own individual style. Tried-and-true techniques are outlined and quirky ideas explored as well until the student can produce a caricature that’s professional, funny and yet expresses their own particular slant. Studio 2

This class is for anyone who loves taking pictures and wants to get the most out of their camera. Ever wonder “What does this button really do?” or “How can I get my photo to look like that?” This is your class. We go over all aspects of your camera and equipment so you can take advantage of all the features. We will also sharpen our skills photographing many different types of subjects. This class may meet at different locations around Wichita to excite on-location photography work. For this class you will need a DSLR “Digital Single Lens Reflex” also known as a digital camera with interchangeable lenses. Examples would be Nikon D40s, D60s, D90s or Canon Rebels. A point and shoot camera will not work. You will also need at least one lens in the range of 18-55mm. A second lens in the 50-200mm range is also preferred. And lastly, you need a creative passion for photographic art! Printing is not provided. Studio 3
